1. Electricity. a) the apparent resistance in an alternating-current circuit, made up of two components, reactance and true or ohmic resistance. b) the square root of the sum of the squares of the true resistance and the difference between the inductive reactance and the capacitive reactance.
2. Physics. the ratio of the pressure in a sound wave to the product of the particle velocity and the area of a cross section of the wave at a given point.
